(Online): Intro. to Sculptural Biomorphism with Clay
Join me for a two-day online workshop where you'll learn the basics in biomorphism, sculptural design, hand-building with clay and building your first ceramic piece. I have developed my practice around the various facets of biology and biomorphism so I will share insights from my own personal journey with the subject, research practice as well as looking more closely at the material that has taught me a lot - clay.
You will form part of an enriched attendee group (maximum of 10 participants per workshop) where we will begin our learning journey.
Single purchase of this course will include a link to a 2-day live/recorded (Zoom) session (please email before purchasing if you are unsure about time zone/connectivity), a document that includes visual references and intro to the materials discussed. Active participation is encouraged. If you are unable to attend the live zoom workshop but would like access to the recorded material + document - please select the ‘recording only’ option.
Ensure you will have access to the essential tools listed below to work:
~4-5kg of clay
Metal kidneys
Potters knife
Banding wheel
A wooden board/wood surface for coiling/slabbing.
Once signed up: A detailed tools list (plus suggestions) will be sent to participants via email before the workshop.
The first half will cover some theory and understanding in biomorphism, form and basics of ceramic design. We will then continue with this knowledge to build a ceramic vessel together between the two day workshop. This will covering techniques such as pinching, coil-based & slab-based building, sculpting and finishing the form.
This workshop has been designed for everyone curious around the field of biomorphism, sculptural design as well as building forms with clay. So whether you are a beginner or a practicing artist/creative looking to get a taste in clay and form based creative process. We will cover all the basics and grow from there.
Following the workshop - we will gather again to review and reflect on everyone’s experience + consolidate learning, in a friendly discussion based format. A poll and date will be emailed to reconvene at a suitable date.
